Common oven problems we can help with
Oven won't heat
Electric ovens frequently have a burned-out bake element, which may show a visible blister or break. Gas ovens more often have a weak hot-surface igniter that can't draw enough current to open the gas safety valve.
Uneven baking or hot spots
A failing bake or broil element can heat only part of the cavity, and a broken convection fan stops air from circulating. A worn door gasket lets heat escape on one side, creating uneven results.
Temperature is off
When the oven runs noticeably hotter or cooler than the setting, the temperature sensor is often out of spec. A control board that misreads the sensor can cause the same drift.
Oven won't turn on at all
A tripped breaker, a blown thermal fuse or a failed control board can leave the display and heating dead. On some models a stuck door lock after self-cleaning also blocks normal operation.
Error code on the display
Codes often relate to the temperature sensor, door lock or a stuck key on the touchpad. The meaning varies by brand and model, so a technician will look it up for your unit.
Door won't unlock after self-clean
The lock stays engaged until the cavity cools, but a failed lock motor or switch can keep it shut long afterward. A control board fault may also fail to release it.
Broiler not working
A burned-out broil element is the usual cause on electric models. On gas ovens, the broil igniter or a valve problem can prevent the broiler flame from lighting.
Repair or replace?
- Ovens tend to last 13 to 15 years or more, so most heating problems are worth repairing, especially on built-in wall ovens that are costly to swap out.
- If a control board or touchpad on an older range is no longer available, or the repair would cost more than half of a similar new range, replacement may be the better choice.
- Rusted cavities, cracked glass and damaged insulation on an aging unit also tip the balance toward replacing.
Safety first
- If you smell gas, don't turn on the oven, lights or any switches. Leave the home immediately and call your gas utility or 911 from outside.
- If an element sparks or arcs, turn the oven off and switch off its circuit breaker before doing anything else.
- Keep children away from the oven door while a technician is working, as the glass can stay hot for some time.

Oven repair FAQ
Can you help with built-in wall ovens?
Yes. Single and double wall ovens are part of what independent providers in our network commonly repair.
Is it safe to use the oven if it heats unevenly?
Usually, but uneven heat often signals a failing element or sensor that may stop working soon. Have it checked.
Should I run the self-clean cycle to fix problems?
No. Self-clean uses very high heat and can stress worn parts. If the oven already has a fault, wait for a technician.
Does the brand of my oven matter?
Most major brands are serviced. Have the model number handy, usually found inside the door frame or drawer.
Do technicians fix convection ovens?
Yes. Convection fans, fan motors and their elements are common repairs.
